The Cricket Captains were #23 Isaiah “The Tomahawk” Lowe,
#26 Dylan “Pickle” Russell, #43 Rodger “Red Shoes” Waddell, and #59 Joshua “The Bull” Silvey (of the Silvey Mafia). The Panthers won the coin toss and wanted the ball.
In their previous meeting in week #8, your Loudon Crickets defeated Lenoir City by the score of 28-12, can they duplicate that feat?
The Big Red Cricket defense came out and set the tone early, sending the Panther offense back to the sideline.
After the punt, the Crickets embarked on a 16 play drive that climaxed in a one yard dive by QB #26 Dylan “Pickle” Russell. This series spanned the 1st and 2nd periods and ate up lots of clock.
Lenoir City answers with a 48 yard touchdown scamper by #88 Landon Sprunger, bringing the score to 6-6 at half time.
Loudon took the football to start the third period. Moving 65 yards in 13 plays resulted in a touchdown by “Pickle” Russell! The workhorse on this drive was #88 Jacob Crabtree, carrying five times for 28 yards. The 2-point conversion was added by #22 Jesse Smallen.
After a -10 yard sack credited to Crabtree and #6 Layne Parks, the Panthers could not recover, and punted.
The Reds took over on the 44 yard line with 41.9 seconds showing on the 3rd quarter clock. Seven plays later the score was 20-6. QB “Pickle” Russell carried every play but fumbled on about the two yard line, the ball squirted into the end zone. Crabtree pounced on the loose ball for the score.
The Cricket defense rose to the occasion one more time and stopped the Panthers on downs, with 1:07 left in the game. #34 Marcus Howard rushes for three plays before time expires.
The MVP Offensive Player of the game was presented to the center #8 Ben Johnson who was perfect on shotgun snaps, while the MVP Defensive Player of the game was awarded to #88 Jacob Crabtree who had six tackles and a sack for -10 yards.
Total offense was 229.5 yards on 46 rushing attempts for three touchdowns and one 2-point conversion.
The Crickets (9-1) earn a big victory 20-6 and roll into the Championship Game ready to tangle with the Riceville Wildcats (10-0). The ‘Cats defeated your Loudon Crickets by a score of 30-0 in week #5 of the regular season; that was their only loss. The game will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, November the 19th 2005 in Sweetwater.
