2005 Indians vs. RicevillePhotos by Jammie Graves">
Photos by Jammie Graves, Article by Jeff McQueen The Indian Captain was #9 Matthew Wallace. Loudon won the coin toss and wanted the foot ball. In fact, it was Matthew Wallace day on the hill, if it had been his birthday it couldn’t have been much sweeter. He represented the team as Captain, scored three touchdowns on 12 carries for 143 yards, two receptions for two 2-point conversions, and added nine tackles. Not a bad day’s work. Those are nice individual stats, but football takes all 11 players to make a team. And the Indian team did some soul searching after last week’s physical defeat at the hands of the Etowah Knights. They had a purpose this week…Indian football was back! It took most of the first quarter to score their first points, #9 Matthew Wallace made up for lost time with a 47 yard touchdown run. The extra points were put up by #27 Kadrean Brewster. That ball control Indian offense ate up most of the second quarter. Wallace capitalized on a nice drive with a score from the five yard line. Air Franklin atoned for his three interceptions last week with a 20 yard touchdown pass to whom else? But the speedster #81 Samuel Curtis! Riceville managed a score, so the half time score board reads 24-8, Indians. The third quarter passed scoreless. However, in the fourth period Wallace ripped off a 30 yard dinger with Brewster providing the extra points with 1:34 left in the game. That would do it. The defensively #16 Nick Roach continues to impress with 10 tackles and #3 Wade Plemons made some serious noise adding five tackles, a fumble recovery, an interception, and recovered an on-sides kick. Total offense was 331 yards. Rushing accounted for 228 yards on 31 attempts, passing added 66 yards, and special teams contributed 37 yards on a kick-off return. In a tough physical game the Indians (4-1) get back on the winning track 32-8. Go Indians! |
