With all the football talk (X’s and O’s, team records, and playoffs) it’s easy to forget about our Cheerleading Teams. They work equally as hard as the football teams and now have their own conference sponsored competitions. Held at two locations, Madisonville and Polk County, the Sub-Regional Competitions were held on October 22. Loudon, Vonore, Madisonville, Tellico, and Greenback competed in the Eastern Sub-Regional; while Lenoir City, Riceville, Polk Co, Sweetwater, and Etowah participated in the Western Sub-Regional.

In these competitions, teams are judged on floor routines, spirit, chants, cheers, entrance & exits, and overall cohesiveness.

The Loudon squads all placed in the Eastern Sub-Regional as follows:

Crickets 2nd place Head Coach Joy Trout
Hoppers 3rd place Head Coach Shea Lively
Mustangs 3rd place Head Coach Marsha Packett
Indians 3rd place Head Coach Katrina O’Neil

For the Grand Competition, held on November 19th in Polk Co, all 10 teams received bids. It was an action packed day, with all those cheergirls bouncing around all over the place. The hard work and preparation of the Loudon squads was evident, as once again all of the Loudon Cheerleading teams placed in the Grand Competition as follows (remember there was twice the competition in the Grand vs. the Sub, all 10 teams competed):

Crickets 4th place (out of 10 teams)
Hoppers 3rd place (out of 10 teams)
Mustangs 3rd place (out of 10 teams)
Indians 4th place (out of 10 teams)

Loudon Quarterback Club Cheerleading Coordinator Shelly Coggins said, “I’m real proud of all our cheerleading teams, especially the Mascot Team coached by Kelli Settle and Kelly Hughes. The Mascots are a developmental squad that cheers at our home games. These young girls are not eligible for the competitions, but they learn the basics and have a great time. Congratulations to the Crickets, Hoppers, Mustang, and Indian Squads as your hard work and dedication has paid off!”
