Out for the coin toss were Captains #7 Timmy Watts, #12 Nick McCord, #36 Jake “The Snake” Mourfield, #55 Jonathan “Cheese Curl” Dorsett, #62 Colten Jones, and #72 Marshall Lynn. Greenback won the coin toss and wanted the ball.

Greenback scored on the first play from scrimmage, a 57 yarder, Loudon answered with a five yard score from #30 Trey “The Train” Townson. The tie came with 3:06 left in the first quarter. And that was as close as the Cherokees would come the rest of the day.

Townson was at it again in the second quarter, scoring from the four yard line, he also added the 2-point conversion. On the ensuing kick off, Greenback was caught napping, hustling down to recover the short kick was #48 Caleb Russell. The Mustangs made short work of the turnover as #18 Zack Sellars motored 46 yards for the touchdown. Townson put up the extra points. The clock showed 6:48 before half time. With the score now 22-6, Big Red, the Mustangs cruised into the locker room.

On their second possession of the third period, the Mustangs started a sustained drive. Capitalizing was #4 Justin Franklin, who snuck in from the four yard line.

With the younger players earning their playing time in the third and fourth stanzas, the Cherokees managed two scores to pull within eight points.

Top defenders were #81 Josh Taylor with four tackles and #34 Ryano McNabb posted three stops.

This game wasn’t as close the score indicated. Total offense was 294 yards. Rushing accounted for 268 yards on 38 attempts for four touchdowns and two 2-point conversions. Special teams provided a turn over that was converted into a touchdown plus 26 kick off return yards.
