Out for the coin toss were Captains #1 Shawn Geiger, #29 Taylor Morris, #45 Cody Morris, and #82 Michael Coggins. Tellico won the coin toss and deferred until the second half. The Big Red Mustangs opened on offense. However the first period ended scoreless. Loudon was able to break the goal line twice before intermission. Quarterback #18 Zack Sellars spent several plays faking the bootleg. It lulled the Bear defense into submission. Selling a good fake, Sellars tucked in the football and rounded the left end in route to a 55 yard touchdown! After forcing one of the three Tellico punts in the first half, Loudon took over on the Bear’s 48 yard line. There were only six seconds left in the half. #30 Trey “The Train” Townson started right on a sweep, he pulled up and fired a half back pass to a streaking #98 Andrew Millsaps. Millsaps caught the ball in full stride. 52 yards later the Mustangs entertained a 12 to nothing half time lead.

The heat was a factor in the second half; in fact all the games were affected in some way by the scorching August sun. Luckily none of the players over heated; every opportunity was taken to keep everyone hydrated. The game was rocking right along, with everything seemingly under control. Tellico had other ideas and was threatening. The Bears punched in a score and made good on their extra points. With only a four point advantage, it was now anybody’s ball game. Mid-way through the fourth stanza, Loudon coughed up the ball. Tellico was in business; only 75 yards separated them from the promised land. After a couple of runs, the Bears took to the air. That was a mistake! Safety #18 Zack Sellars stepped in front of the intended receiver and was off to the races. Sellars rambled down to the Tellico four yard line. From there, one play was all that was needed for Townson to score and add the conversion points himself. Having a good day at the office, Sellars poached two interceptions, scored a touchdown, and added two tackles. Defensive stalwarts included #9 Sam Eldridge and #21 Trey Horton with seven and six tackles respectively.

Although they didn’t pitch a shutout, it was a good way for the defending Conference Champions to start the season. Total offense was 227 yards. Rushing accounted for 175 yards on 29 attempts for three touchdowns and one 2-point conversion. Passing added 52 yards on #98 Andrew Millsaps’ touchdown reception.
