2005 Redskins vs. WartburgLoudon 60 - Wartburg 21Photos by Jammie Graves - Article by Jeff McQueen Wartburg Central Bulldogs vs. Loudon Redskins Senior Night October 21st, 20051st 2nd 3rd 4th Final Loudon Redskins 20 20 0 20 60 Wartburg Central Bulldogs 0 0 14 7 21 Although the Redskins are locked in as the #2 playoff seed and first round home field advantage (by virtue of the CAK victory over Rockwood), this is still an important regional game. We hold a 3-1 record all time verses Wartburg (0-8, 2-2A); the last meeting resulted in a 34-6 Redskin victory in 2000. Is Wartburg the best 0-8 team in the State of Tennessee? Let’s hope the Redskins aren’t looking past them, and come out ready to play - they did. As it was Senior Night, the senior members of the football team were out for the coin toss, representing the Redskins as Captains: #3 Brandon Dixon, #4 Cody Fritts, #5 Taylor Eldridge, #7 Mark Harrison, #10 Ryan Queen, #21 Cory Fritts, #44 Matthew Packett, #51 Clay Matlock, #53 Jimmy McQueen, #61 Tim Ramsey, #79 John Paul Hackney, #85 Joe Webb, #82 Cody Wiggins, and #88 Big Ace Henry. The Redskins won the toss and wanted the football. The Wartburg kick-off was short, and fielded on the 25 yard line by #81 Daniel Laughlin. With a 16 yard return, Laughlin had the Redskin offense open for business on the 41 yard line. On the first play from scrimmage, QB #4 Cody Fritts hooked up with fellow senior #5 Taylor Eldridge on an 18 yard pitch and catch. On the second play from scrimmage, #8 Tyler Campbell motors into the end zone untouched from 41 yards out…the scoreboard reads 6-0 ‘Skins, with 11:27 showing on the clock. At this point, the game is over! The Red Team proceeded to pound the Bulldogs into submission; the score at halftime was 40-0. The entire second half was played by JV and freshmen. Since the Redskins scored nine touchdowns and the Bulldogs scored three, a chronological time line is the best way to present the data:
And with the final score of 60-21, the Redskins (8-1) send the Bulldogs back to the pound! The latest Associated Press (AP) football rankings are: Class 2A 1. Alcoa (9-1) 2. Huntingdon (8-1) 3. Loudon (8-1) 4. Westview (8-1) 5. Cumberland Gap (8-1) The ‘Skins (8-1) will travel to Rockwood this Friday, to tangle with the Tigers in the regular season final. Go Big Red!
