2005 Loudon Redskin Football BanquetOctober 14th, 2005Article by Jeff McQueen The 2005 Annual Redskins Football Awards Banquet was held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 6:00 pm. The theme was “Loudon Redskins…We’re Back!!!”. The LHS cafeteria was the site of this special event, of course it was decorated in “Red and White”. Guests included Principal John Bartlett and Assistant Principal Cheri Parrish. Mr. Jim Roberts offered the invocation before everyone enjoyed a barbeque dinner complete with all the fixings, catered by the Curtis family. Booster Club members Pam McNew and Lori Everett were the banquet coordinators. Head Coach Jeff Harig presided over the awards presentation. But first, special guest John Cardwell (LHS ’80, jersey #10, played quarterback), representing the Cardwell family, presented the Coach Jim Cardwell Award to Offensive Coordinator Ronnie Roberts. The Coach Jim Cardwell Award honors the late Jim Cardwell who coached the Loudon Redskins for the 1955 and 1956 seasons. Also the Loudon coach’s office in the field house is named the “James C. Cardwell Football Office”. Coach Robert’s name will be added to the plaque that adorns the wall. The Cardwell family annually sponsors a member of the Loudon coaching staff to attend a coaching seminar or clinic of his choice.
Mid way through the proceedings, up to the podium popped Mrs. Donna Webb, Kristen Henderson, and Brianne Smith. These ladies presented Coach Harig with several special gifts. For her senior project, Brianne Smith had been working on a stained glass “Loudon Power L” in of course red and white. Kristen Henderson sewed a quilt with all the Redskin’s senior pictures on it for her senior project. A surprised and red faced Harig was almost speechless. Mrs. Webb along with several helpers sewed “Senior Quilts” for every Redskin senior! The seniors also presented Coach Harig with an autographed football for his trophy case. Rick Wiggins, Vice- President of the Football Boosters Club, presented each senior with a framed picture collage commemorating the season. And so ends the 2005 football season. What does the future hold for this senior class? Perhaps, a place in Redskin history as the team of the decade (2000’s). Definitely special memories and life experiences that will never be forgotten…a fire that will never burn out, but most importantly leaving no doubt what it means to have been a Loudon Redskin!!! And for the underclassmen a lesson in teamwork, dedication, and very importantly a thirst for winning that can never be quenched. Next up the 2006 Coach “Chig” Ratledge Lift-A-Thon and spring practice. Loudon Redskins…We’re Back!!!
