The Sequoyah football conference championship game was played by two teams
with identical 10-1 records. The participants were the Loudon Hoppers and the
Tellico Bears. These same Bears pinned the only loss on the Hoppers in 34 games,
spanning three seasons. The Hoppers are the standing back-to-back conference
champions, and made plans in early August to make it a three-peat!
The Loudon Hoppers won the coin toss, and elected to go on offense. 1st and
10, ball on the 35-yd line. #17 Wade Plemons surges ahead for 5 yards. On the
2nd play of the game, #36 Nick Brown “took it to the house” from 60 yards
out to put Loudon up 6-0. #17 Wade Plemons added the 2-pt conversion. The Hopper
defense forced a three and out series. The Loudon offense drove down field on a
10-play drive capped off by a 36-yard touchdown by #36 Nick Brown. Tellico
gained a 1st down, but could not sustain the drive. After the Tellico punt, #36
Nick Brown was at it again, he raced down the sideline for a 74-yard TD dash.
The mighty Hopper “D” stopped the Bears again, this time with an
interception by #17 Wade Plemons. Loudon scored on their first three offensive
series, and the Hopper defense stopped the Bears three times in a row. At the
half, the Loudon Hoppers are up 22-0, have broken the Bear’s spirits, and have
totally dominated the game. Tellico managed a meaningless score late in the
game. The final score was 22-8, Loudon Hoppers. The Hoppers complete an 11-1
season and are the Triple Crown League Champions!
