2003 Sequoyah Conference Jamboree

The Sequoyah Conference football jamboree was held this past Saturday (8-16-03) at the McMinn Co. High School football stadium. The Loudon Quarterback Club played the Polk Co. Wildcats. The Crickets, Hoppers, Mustangs, and Indians each got one 15 minute quarter with the clock being stopped sparingly. Things got started at 9:00am in the fog.

Crickets:

The Crickets, as always will be a young team this year. Head Coach Jonathan Yates and his assistants spend a great deal of time working with these young players who have never played football before. Polk Co. put up two scores on our Cricket defense. The offense moved the ball well, earning three 1st downs in a nice drive as time expired.

Hoppers:

Head Coach David Matlock appears to have re-loaded his Championship squad. Going 34-1 in three seasons with three Conference Crowns will be a hard act to follow. The defense was already in mid-season form, they forced three fumbles while holding the Wildcats to negative rushing yards for the day. The Hopper offense was a little sluggish, I’m Sure Coach Matlock will get the wheels to the ground by opening day. The Quarter ended with the score 0-0.

Mustangs:

As the Conference Runners-up last season, expectations are high in the Mustangs camp! #33 Nick Brown ripped off a 48 yard TD scamper, and #27 Wade Plemons added the 2pt. conversion. Look for a well coached team, full of veteran and first year players. The Mustangs won 8-0.

Indians:

The Indians held their own against a good Polk Co. squad. Solid “D” keep giving the ball back to the offense. A failed 4th down conversion keep the Indians off the score board as they went down 8-0.
