The Loudon Jamboree: Loudon vs. Meiggs County at Dukes FieldRex Mingie, LHS Redskins webmaster and sportswriter The annual jamboree was held at Dukes Field on Friday evening August 17. It began at 7:00 and ended somewhere around 9:30 or so. It consisted of eight teams playing four games, each game lasting one quarter each. Eight teams being present, it was indeed a packed house. An intermission was taken after the third quarter so that the pass, punt, and kick competitions could get underway. Gabe Curtis (42) won the punting contest; Caleb Wilkerson (10) won the forty-yard dash in the receivers and linebackers division. Loudon played Meiggs County in the last quarter. Loudon had starting possession but an interception within the first minute of the game gave possession to Meigs County which capitalized on its opportunity with a touchdown and a successful field goal making the score 7-0. Though making a good effort, Loudon was unable to put points on the board. Meiggs scored again later and came out on top with a 14-0 victory over the Redskins. Loudon vs. McMinn Central: Jamboree Redemption!Article text by Rex Mingie, LHS Redskins webmaster and sportswriter; score sheet prepared by Gary Barber Game date: August 24, 2001 It most certainly is the case that last week's loss to Meigs County was the wrong way for the Redskins to start the season. It could have been that the loss stuck in the Redskins' collective consciousness and was a looming subconsious threat in their bid to defeat their next opponent, the McMinn Central Chargers. It wasn't! Within one minute of the first quarter, the 'Skins Jake Brantley (33) ran fifty-five yards for the first touchdown of the evening, putting Loudon in a position in which they were to stay for the rest of the game -- on top and in the lead. Seconds later Greg Channell (15) put another point on making the score 7-0. The Chargers were not to be defeated so easily though. Seven-and-a-half minutes into the first quarter McMinn matched the 'Skins seven with seven of their own with the help of Zane Gross' (5) thirty-yard shuttle-pass touchdown and Lee Hosack's (27) extra point. Loudon's Gabe Curtis (42) and Greg Channell (15) answered back with a touchdown and extra-point kick respectively putting Loudon once again in the lead 14-7 with 6:45 remaining in the first quarter. Approximately one-and-a-half minutes later an Adam Moore (9) interception set up the opportunity for Curtis and Channell to do the exact same thing and give Loudon another seven points for a first quarter ending score of 21-7. McMinn's Ben Fasig (19) was injured in the first quarter but was allowed to continue later. The second quarter belonged to Loudon exclusively. Four minutes into the quarter, Curtis' (42) touchdown and Channell's (15) extra point continued the first quarter momentum with another seven points. A minute or so later with 9:11 remaining in the half, the Curtis/Channel scoring monster lashed out once more at McMinn forcing another seven on the board. At the 5:05-remaining point in the half, Loudon's Chris Fletcher (11) intercepted a pass off of McMinnn's Ben Fasig (19) and ran in another Loudon touchdown. Channell put another one on the board with an extra-point kick. The half closed with a score of Loudon 42 and McMinn 7. Hoping for a turnaround and a miracle victory in the second half, the Chargers would soon discover that such a miracle was not to happen. At 4:53 in the third quarter, Loudon's quarterback Chad Oody (2) would execute a fourteen-yard touchdown run which added another six to Loudon's already unimaginable lead over the Chargers. Greg Channell put on another point seconds later with yet another extra-point kick. A sixty-one yard Fasig pass at 7:15 into the quarter to McMinn's Chris Simmons (7) yielded a badly-needed six points for the Chargers, closing the gap to thirty-six points. The McMinn extra-point attempt was, however, unsuccessful. Loudon was to score once more in this quarter. A seventy-yard run by Caleb Wilkerson (10) and a subsequent successful extra-point attempt by Channell (12) was to offset the McMinn third-quarter score. The 'Skins ended the third quarter with a 56-13 lead. The final quarter was evenly split between the Redskins and Chargers. Loudon continued its momentum with Caleb Wilkerson (10) scoring a TD from the McMinn three-yard line. Channell worked his magic once again with another successful extra-point kick resulting in the 'Skins only seven points of the last quarter. McMinn matched Loudon's third-quarter scoring drive with seven of their own. With 7:07 remaining in the game, the Charger's Chris Simmons (7) completed a seventy-five yard touchdown run from the McMinn twenty-five yard line. Their kicker, Lee Hosack (27), added another point with a successful extra-point attempt matching the Redskins third-quarter seven. The game ended a little after 9:30 with the score Loudon 63 and McMinn 20. Coach Daniel Comments on the McMinn Central Game:
"[The victory over McMinn Central] was a
great way to get started in the season. We played pretty well, and we
were able to get everyone in the game after half time. Nothing helps team
moral more than playing time. McMinn Central is down a little in talent
and in numbers, but you can bet they will be back. I was very proud of
our execution in most facets of the game. I thought we had good fan support.
This upcoming week against [Anderson County] will be a great measuring stick
for where we are or where we need to get, to be competitive in our region.
They have great team speed and are physical, but I don't think it will be
any different than the scrimmages we have had. I think our team will be
ready for the challenge. Go Redskins! LHS vs. Anderson County Mavericks: What a Mess!By Rex Mingie, Redskins webmaster and sportswriter Game date: August 31, 2001 The first quarter belonged to Anderson County without exception. Three minutes into the quarter a touchdown was scored by an unknown (to me anyway, thanks to the drums) Mavericks player. An extra point was added by their kicker Thomas Hughes (12) for the beginning of an A.C. dominated game. With one minute left in the quarter, another unknown Maverick (perhaps the same one as before -- I just don't know) intercepted a pass from the Redskin's Chad Oody (2) and ran in another six points, giving Hughes (12) another successful shot at an extra point. The first quarter came to a close with the score LHS 0, A.C. 14. The second quarter was pretty much a repeat of the first. The 'Skins defense seemed to do a good job of keeping the A.C. offense at bay until the 2:09-remaining point in the first half. It was at this point that the Maverick's Lee Risden (5) got an interception off of Oody and scored a touchdown. An A.C. kicker (either Bryan Brady (1) or Thomas Hughes (12); didn't see his jersey number; couldn't hear--again--his name) booted in an extra-point making the score 21-0 for our opponent. With twenty-six seconds remaining in the half, Anderson County got another seven thanks to Matt Price (3) intercepting an Oody (2) pass, scoring a touchdown, and another Hughes' (12) extra-point kick. The Redskin's Adam Moore (9) was hurt near the end of this quarter and was taken out. He returned to play later. The score at the half was LHS 0, A.C. 28. The third quarter still belonged to the Mavericks, but Loudon was finally able to get on the scoreboard. At 3:28 into the third quarter Loudon fumbled a punt which was recovered by the Mavericks' Matt Price (3) for a touchdown. Hughes'(12) extra point was successful giving A.C. another seven. With 6:09 remaining in the quarter, A.C.'s Frank Phillips (9) intercepted a Loudon pass and ran in the second Maverick touchdown for the quarter. The extra-point attempt was, however, unsuccessful. Four minutes or so later, Loudon's Kelly Rushing (6) scored a touchdown putting the Redskins on the board for the first time. Instead of the usual extra-point attempt, the Redskins attempted a two-point conversion which was not successful. The quarter ended LHS 6, A.C. 41. The only scoring that took place in the final quarter was on the part of Loudon. With 4:42 left in the game, the Redskin's Chase Randolph (7) scored a touchdown setting up another two-point conversion attempt. This second try at a two-point conversion failed as did the previous one. The final score was 41-12 for the Mavericks. Coach Daniels comments on the Anderson County game: "The Anderson Co. game was one of those you just want to go away. Our team did not play well, [and] we made too many errors. We did not handle playing in a big game very well. Maybe our youth showed through. We need to put that one behind us and go on. This week we have a cross-county rival in Sequoyah; and, being on the road again, we will have to get back to doing what we do best. Our team was not happy with their performance at Anderson County; so I look forward to seeing how we perform against our next opponent. Good luck Redskins." LHS vs. Sequoyah: The 'Skins Scalp the ChiefsGame date: September 7, 2001 Article text by Rex Mingie, Redskins webmaster and sports writer; score sheet prepared by former Redskin Lee Carroll. The only scoring in the first quarter was on the part of Loudon's Tremon Hall (82) when he intercepted a Chief's pass at the Sequoyah forty-one yard line with 4:52 remaining in the quarter. Loudon's Greg Channel (15) got the extra point putting the score at LHS 7, Sequoyah 0. Sequoyah turned the ball over twice in the first quarter: once with a fumble recovery by Gabe Curtis (42) and the Hall (82) interception. The second quarter got off to a good start for the 'Skins when, at a minute-and-a-half into the quarter, Adam Moore (9) intercepted a Sequoyah pass and ran sixty-nine yards for the Loudon second touchdown of the evening. Greg Channel (15) got the extra point. After Sequoyah fumbled the ball at their own six-yard line and Loudon's failure to score a TD at such a short distance, the Redskin's Greg Channel, with 1:37 remaining, successfully kicked a twenty-yard field goal giving Loudon another three points. The score at the half was Redskins 17, Chiefs 0. After a Cody Carson injury (he did return later) in the third quarter, Loudon put another seven on the board when Gabe Curtis (42) ran in a touchdown from the Sequoyah three-yard line, followed by Channel's (15) extra point. The Chief's finally scored in this the third quarter when with about a minute left, Jerome Feldman ran in a touchdown from Loudon's three-yard line. The Chiefs attempted a two-point conversion which was unsuccessful. Instead of kicking off to the Redskins, the Chiefs chose to attempt an on-side kick. This too, was also unsuccessful. Jake Brantley (33) was injured at the end of the quarter and was taken out of play. The final quarter started with a Caleb Wilkerson (33) touchdown which was called back due to a holding penalty on the Redskins. Three minutes later at 7:14 remaining, Chad Oody (2) scored a touchdown, followed by Greg Channel's (15) extra point. Donovan Jones for the Chiefs then scored a touchdown with 4:58 left in the game. After the Sequoyah touchdown, the team attempted both a two-point conversion and an onside kick both of which failed. It was at this point that Chase Randolph (7) relieved Chad Oody as quarterback. With 1:06 remaining in the game, Loudon continued its scoring run as Brent McNew (22) ran in a touchdown from seven yards out. Again, Channel's extra point was successful. The game ended with Loudon on top 38 to 12. Coach Daniels comments on the LHS vs. Sequoyah game: "It was great to get the win, but for the
past two weeks we did not execute the way we would like. The players and
coaches know we are better than the way we are playing at this point. I am
very proud of our team and know we will Loudon vs. Austin-EastGame date: September 14, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Redskins webmaster and sports writer The only scoring in the first quarter belonged to Austin East. With 1:12 left in the quarter, A.E.'s Phillips ran a 75-yard punt return for a touchdown. As A.E. has had problems with kicking this year, they chose to attempt a two-point conversion which was unsuccessful. The quarter ended 6-0 in favor of Austin East. A rerun of the first quarter is pretty much what happened in the second quarter. The Roadrunner's Curry scored a touchdown only inches from the endzone after being stopped by Loudon several times. Again, A.E. attempted a two-point conversion which, like the first attempt, failed. The half ended LHS 0, A.E. 12. The third quarter provided Loudon with its only scoring of the game when Chad Oody (2) intercepted an A.E. pass and ran it in for a touchdown. Channel's (15) extra point was good. The Roadrunners didn't score at all in this quarter. The Redskins narrowed the score, making it 12-7 A.E. Well, what can you say? Nobody scored at all in the fourth quarter. The game ended with A.E. the victor 12-7. Coach Daniels comments on the AE game: A.E. IS A GOOD FOOTBALL TEAM AND VERY WELL COACHED. OUR TEAM PLAYED AS HARD AS WE HAVE ALL YEAR AND JUST CAME UP SHORT IN A HARD FOUGHT BALLGAME. DEFENSIVELY WE PLAYED VERY WELL ALL NIGHT AND WITH HELP FROM A.E. WE WERE ABLE TO HOLD THEM TO 6 OFFENSIVE POINTS AND THEN WE GAVE A PUNT RETURN FOR THEIR OTHER 6 POINTS. GOING INTO THE GAME WE FELT IF WE COULD HOLD THEM TO THAT FEW POINTS WE COULD WIN. THAT DID NOT HAPPEN BECAUSE OUR OFFENSE HAS GONE INTO A SLUMP OF SORTS. THERE ARE APPROXIMATELY 15 -18 REASONS FOR THAT AND THEY ARE THE COACHES AND THE ELEVEN PLAYERS ON THE FIELD. WE WATCH FILM AS A TEAM EVERY SATURDAY AND OUR TEAM HAS BEEN SO CLOSE BUT YET SO FAR! WE HAVE HAD A GOOD WEEK OF PRACTICE AGAIN, SO MAYBE WE WILL TURN THE CORNER AND PLAY AS WE DID AGAINST HALLS OR WEST BACK IN THE SUMMER. SWEETWATER IS MUCH IMPROVED AND WILL BE A TOUGH TASK, BUT I FEEL OUR REDSKINS WILL BE READY!!!!!!!!!! Loudon vs. Sweetwater: Can You Say "Turnovers" and "Whew, That Was Close!"Game date: September 21, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Loudon Redskins webmaster The Loudon/Sweetwater game was indeed a barn burner. Marked by numerous turnovers by each team and a fourth quarter that left both team's fans on the edge of their seats, the only phrase that truly describes this contest is "exciting to the end." The first quarter gave the feeling that Loudon was going to make up for last week's defeat at the hands of the Roadrunners. Within 90 seconds of the contest, Loudon's Chad Oody (2) ran fifty-two yards from the forty-eight yard line for the first touchdown of the evening. Greg Channel (15) easily got the extra point. No more scoring occurred until each team had opportunity to turn the ball over, and boy did they! At 8:54 the Redskin's Kevin Herrell (1) intercepted a pass off of the Wildcats quarterback Phillips at the Loudon thirty-eight yard line. About a minute later Phillips intercepted a Redskin's pass, and then four minutes later with 3:54 left in the quarter, Herrell (1) again intercepted a Sweetwater pass. With less than one minute left, Sweetwater's Phillips successfully completed a pass to Paris for a TD from the Sweetwater thirty-two yard line. The Wildcat's kicker Stevai (I guess that's how you spell it -- I listened to the game on the radio without the benefit of a program to help with spellings) scored the extra point making the game LHS 7, Sweetwater 7 at the close of the quarter. Loudon really turned on the heat in the second quarter and made me think this game was going to be a total blowout of the Wildcats. Forty-five seconds in the quarter LHS's Chad Oody (2) scored a touchdown from the Redskins own twenty-eight yard line. This time, however, Greg Channel's (15) extra point attempt failed raising the score to 13-7 in favor of the 'Skins. Speaking of turnovers once again, two minutes after the Loudon touchdown, Sweetwater fumbled the ball and the Redskin's Jimmie Walker (4) recovered it. Five seconds or so later, Sweetwater recovered a Loudon fumble but was unable to capitalize on their luck. Loudon got the ball back after an unsuccessful Wildcats drive and was forced to bring in Greg Channel (15) for a thirty-yard field goal attempt which was successful. Lady luck continued to smile on Loudon when Herrell (1) intercepted a Sweetwater pass and ran in a touchdown from the LHS thirty-five yard line with eighteen seconds remaining in the half. Greg Channel's (15) extra point attempt was good this time. The score at the half was LHS 23, Sweetwater 7. The Wildcats began to regain some hope in the second half. I think I mentioned earlier that this game had a good number of turnovers, didn't I? Oh yeah, I did. Anyway, Loudon's Chad Oody (2) fumbled the kickoff reception, which gave Sweetwater the opportunity, the successful opportunity, to recover at Loudon's twenty-seven yard line. Not to be outdone in this who-can-turn-over-the-ball -the-most contest, Loudon's Robbie Cline (3) intercepted a Sweetwater pass in their end zone and ran it out to the twenty. Loudon did nothing with that possession however. Sweetwater, having gotten the ball back when Loudon used up four downs without gaining another first, was able to score not only a touchdown but also a two-point conversion giving them eight points for the quarter. The third ended with LHS 23, Sweetwater 15. Well, no scoring occurred in the final quarter; but man was it exciting! After swapping possession of the ball back and forth a few times, Sweetwater, being only eight points behind, was able to drive the ball way back into Loudon territory (seems like to around the six yard line -- I forgot to write that part down, sorry). It was obvious to both sets of fans that Sweetwater was quite able to score both a touchdown and a two-point conversion here and had 1:17 left to do it -- more than enough time. We were afraid they might; they were afraid they might not. Needless to say, no one left to beat the outgoing traffic. We stopped them. With 22.7 seconds left in the game, we shut 'em down at our six yard line. Oody (2) did nothing with the ball (thank goodness) and let the clock run out. With nineteen seconds left, both teams started coming onto the field. That was it. We had won, but not without a bit of sweaty palms and nerves on edge. The final score: LHS 23, Sweetwater 15. Coach Daniels comments on the Sweetwater game: The Sweetwater game was a big win for us and it sure was a great team effort as well as a superb effort from several individuals. At the end, we sure made it close; but our defense did a great job of finishing. We have many sophomores in our line up; and, with the injury situation, we have several back-ups in key positions. I am very proud of the effort that has been given, but we need to execute better in many positions on both sides of the ball. I know we can and our kids will! LHS vs. Fulton FalconsGame date: September 28, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Loudon Redskins webmaster The first quarter almost went by with no scoring at all. Finally, after fruitlessly swapping possession back and forth for about ten minutes, with 1:13 left Fulton's Mitchell ran in a forty-five yard touchdown which was followed by a successful extra point. That's pretty much it for the opening quarter. The score after the first twelve was LHS 0, Fulton 7. The second quarter was a bit busier. With five minutes remaining, the Falcon's Mitchell again ran in another touchdown; but this one was called back (thank goodness) due to a clipping penalty on Fulton. Fulton got another touchdown three-and-a-half minutes later from the one yard line which was followed by a successful Norris' extra point attempt. On the kickoff return, the Redskin's Oody (2) ran the ball all the way back to the Fulton fourteen yard line; and from that point, with forty-four-point-eight seconds remaining, Loudon got its first touchdown of the evening via Chad Oody. The extra point attempt is interesting. Greg Channel (15) made the attempt, but the extra point was called back because of an illegal procedure penalty. On the second attempt, this from the twenty-five yard line, the extra point attempt was blocked. So the half ended LHS 6 and Fulton 14. The third quarter, as was the case in the first, almost went by with no scoring. Twice Fulton had the opportunity to score touchdowns and twice they messed up. At 6:26 into the second half, Fulton's Mitchell ran in a TD but the score was called back, again, due to a penalty. The second almost- successful TD was one that was dropped in the end zone. Finally, the Falcons did score with only thirteen second remaining in the third. The extra point, however, was no good; and the score at the conclusion of the quarter was LHS 6, Fulton 20. The fourth quarter witness the game's only interception by Fulton's Ronnie Collins at the Falcon's thirty-two. Only touchdown (a fifty-eight yard run) and extra point occurred in the quarter with 2:01 remaining, and they were executed by Fulton's Mitchell and Norris, respectively. The quarter had two penalties - one for each team. The game ended with the final score LHS 6, Fulton 27. Coach Daniels comments on the Fulton game: The Fulton game was disturbing to everyone and has put our team in a position that it has not been in for many years. Due to injuries to numerous to mention we have not been very productive. The thing our team must do at this time is pull even closer together and focus on a way to win. The easy thing to do would be to point fingers and blame. We are a lot better and closer than that. Believe me, none of the Redskins are comfortable with our situation. We will continue to battle. GOOD LUCK RED !!!!!!! LHS vs. Scott CountyGame date: October 5, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Loudon Redskins webmaster The Redskins got off to a good start in the first quarter as Chad Oody (2) scored the game's first touchdown from twenty-six yards at fifty-nine seconds into the game. The TD was followed by a successful extra point attempt by Greg Channel (15). Seven minutes later at the 4:50-remaining point in the quarter, Loudon's Jimmy Walker (4) took a hand off from Oody and ran in a TD from the Scott eleven yard line. Channel's extra point attempt was again successful. The score at the end of the quarter was LHS 14, Scott 0. The second quarter was somewhat lifeless with the only scoring action occurring in the last minute of the half with twenty-seven seconds remaining. Taking a hand off from Chad Oody (2), the Redskins' Jimmy Walker (4) scored his second TD of the game from the Scott two yard line followed by another successful Greg Channel extra point. The Highlanders did not score at all in this quarter. The score at the half was LHS 21, Scott Co. 0. If the Highlanders had hoped for a resurrection in the second half, the third quarter did not give them hope of such a miracle. An interception by Loudon's Chris Fletcher (11) gave way to another Jimmy Walker TD and a successful Gabe Curtis (42) extra point (Channel was hurt somehow and could not return to the game). Scott County was again unable to put points on the board resulting in a score of 28 to 0 in favor of Loudon at the end of the third quarter. Five minutes into the fourth, Jimmy Walker (4) caught a Chase Randolph (7) pass and scored his fourth and final touchdown of the game. Gabe Curtis (42) got the extra point for another Loudon seven. Four minutes later at 3:21 left in the game, Scott County finally did score. The Highlander's Scott Kelly ran in that team's only touchdown of the game. They did not get the extra point because the extra point attempt was actually a two-point conversion attempt in disguise. Scott County was not successful in their subterfugial attempt, and the ended the game with a mere six points. The game ended with the score LHS 35, Scott County 6. LHS vs. KingstonGame date: October 12, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Loudon Redskins webmaster The first quarter was a bit slow. The only scoring in the first was on the part of Loudon. Caleb Wilkerson (10) scored the evening's first TD with 5:56 left in the quarter. He scored off the option from the Kingston twenty-yard line. Greg Channel got the extra point which made the first quarter's score LHS 7, Kingston 0. At 4:48 in the second quarter the Redskins' Jake Brantley (33) scored a TD from the Kingston one yard line. Channel's (15) extra point attempt was good. With fifty-eight seconds left Loudon's Chad Oody (2) intercepted a Yellowjackets pass at the Loudon twenty-two. This interception led to Oody's only TD of the evening. Greg Channel's extra point attempt was unsuccessful this time. The score at the half was LHS 20, Kingston 0. Nobody scored in the third. The only exciting thing to occur was when Loudon had a punt blocked with ten seconds remaining in the quarter. The score remained LHS 20, Kingston 0. A fourth quarter Redskin fumble by Jake Brantley was recovered by Kingston giving them the opportunity to score which they did. With 6:16 remaining, the Yellowjackets' Jason Gibbons ran sixty-three yards from the Loudon 37 to score Kingston's only TD of the game. Drew McMillan got the extra point. The game ended LHS 20, Kingston 7. Coach Daniels comments on the Kingston game: ". . . The Redskins appear to be getting on track and just in time. We had a great win in Kingston. It was a great team effort in all areas -- off., def., and spec. teams. Our team is again healthy, and we can play with a full deck. Our depth at many positions has been restored, and all this couldn't have come at a better time in our season. The Kingston win was big, but the Gibbs game is as big because its next! Gibbs is big and strong looking on film. I'm sure it will be a good game. They are a never-quit team, and they have shown that on many occasions [against] Loudon in the past." LHS vs. Gibbs: The Redskins Ground an EagleGame date: October 19, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Redskins webmaster and sportswriter With 7:19 left in the first quarter, Loudon's Caleb Wilkerson (10) scored the game's first TD from the LHS 32. Greg Channel's (15) extra-point attempt was good making the score 7 to 0 in favor of Loudon. Later, Channel's attempt at a field goal from the twenty-seven yard line failed. Gibbs didn't score at all in the first quarter bringing the period to an end with Loudon ahead seven point to nothing. The Redskins' Adam Moore (9) scored a TD from the Gibbs 47 at the 5:12-remaining point in the half. Channel's extra point was good Two-and-a-half minutes later Loudon's Brent McNew (22) scored a TD from the Eagles one yard line. Again, Channel's extra point attempt was successful. Robbie Cline (3) intercepted a Gibbs pass with about a minute and twenty seconds left in the half, but Loudon was unable to capitalize on their luck. The half ended with Loudon leading Gibbs twenty-one to nothing. The third quarter unfortunately belonged solely to Gibbs with Josh McDaniel (34) scoring the Eagles first touchdown with 1:23 left. Drew Payne's (9) extra point attempt was successful. Loudon's C.J. Sharp was injured in this quarter and limped from the field with help. No other scoring took in this period resulting in the third quarter score of LHS 21, Gibbs 7. The final quarter was a bit slow and boring. The teams just passed possession back and forth a few times, unable to put any points on the board. The game's final score was 21 to 7 in favor of Loudon. Congratulations Big Red! Well, Redskins fans next Friday is the big night. Though Lenoir City lost to Anderson County (as did we), they are a tough team; and it will be no easy task to defeat the Panthers Loudon vs. Lenoir City: The End of the LineGame date: October 26, 2001 By Rex Mingie, Redskins webmaster and sportswriter The first quarter belonged to the Panthers, but not without the Redskins making their mark. With 8:00 minutes remaining in the quarter Greg Channel (15) scored a field goal for Loudon putting them in the lead. Not to be outdone, Lenoir City scored the night's first TD from the Loudon three yard line giving them the lead followed by a successful extra point by the Panthers' Kinser. Two minutes and twenty seconds later Loudon fired back with an eighty yard run by Loudon's Jake Brantley ending with the second touchdown. Channel's (15) extra point was good. Lenoir City's Andrews then scored a touchdown followed by another successful extra point by Kinser. The quarter ended with Lenoir City in the lead 14-10. The second quarter was a bit slower than the first and brought the game to a tie. Thirty-one seconds into the quarter the Redskins Wilkerson put six on the board with Loudon's second and last TD of the evening. The extra point attempt by Channel was again good. To bring the game to a tie, Lenoir City's Kinser scored a twenty-five yard field goal. The score at the half was Loudon 17, Lenoir City 17. The second half was the sole possession of the Panthers although there was only one scoring drive. At 8:16 into the quarter, the Panthers' Freedman scored another TD for LC. Kinser's attempt at the extra point was good. The score at the end of the quarter was Loudon 17, Lenoir City 24. With 3:02 remaining in the game, LC's Kinser scored a field goal from the Loudon twenty-four yard line. A minute-and-a-half later Lenoir City scored again with Freedman's second TD of the night. This time, however, Kinser's extra point failed. The game ended Loudon 17, Lenoir City 33.
