REDSKINS... STUNG BY YELLOW JACKETS, 31-0

(10-24-2002) By Jeff McQueen, the "Voice of the Hill"

The Redskins got kicked around Friday evening at Dukes Field as Kingston solidified its playoff chances with a convincing 31-0 shutout victory over Loudon.

It was Senior Night. The Redskin seniors bid farewell to Dukes Field on the final home game of their high school careers. Senior football players are: Captain #2 Chad Oody, Captain #3 Robbie Cline, Captain #6 Kelly Rushing, # 9 Adam Paramo, Captain #22 Brent McNew, #42 Andrew Summers, #59 Dailon Sellars, #60 Josh Blankenship, Captain #65 Joey Watkins, and Captain #78 Andy Green.

Also, the much awaited and anticipated “Redskin Field House” was used for the first time, a special treat for the departing seniors.

Kingston place kicker #1 Drew McMillan converted all four of his extra point efforts, split the uprights on a 27 yard field goal (He just missed a 49 yd field goal), and continually airmailed the goal line on his kickoffs as the Yellow Jackets handed Loudon their fifth loss of the season. Oh yea, he was also on the receiving end of a TD toss to finish the night with 13 points.

Not to be outdone, teammate #31 Joe Driggers scored three touchdowns on the evening as the two combined for all of the Yellow Jackets points.

Kingston scored twice in the first quarter when tailback #31 Driggers found pay dirt with runs of four and two yards.

McMillan made good on his field goal to open the second quarter, as the Jackets edged out to a 17-0 lead.

On their next possession, quarterback #19 Josh Wade hooked up with McMillan on a 30-yard toss to take a 24-0 advantage into the locker room.

Driggers ended the scoring for the evening in the third quarter on a two-yard run. The Redskins picked up 110 yards rushing for the evening with senior Captain #22 Brent McNew leading the attack, gaining 49 yards on seven tries. Teammate Jake Brantley contributed 44 yards on 15 trips through the line.

The Redskin passing game never got off the ground, finishing with two completions out of seven attempts for only five yards and one interception. Loudon coughed up the ball six times, losing possession twice.

A defensive highlight came as #7 Chase Randolph, intercepted a Kingston pass in the end zone to thwart a scoring opportunity. One of the premier defense backs in the region, Randolph leads the team in interceptions. Loudon forced one fumble out of a Yellow Jacket offense that appeared to be hitting on all cylinders.
