GAME SUMMARY, STATS, AND PHOTOS

Redskin Tribe Tops Highlanders, 26-15

By Jeff McQueen, the "Voice of the Hill"

The Redskins tribe took their show on the road, all the way to Scott Co. to take on the Highlanders, claiming a 26-15 victory, for their efforts. A soggy field and foggy conditions set the tone for a ground it out type of game. The first quarter went scoreless, as both teams shot themselves in the foot. #1 Patric Johnson stopped a Scott drive with a sack for -8 yards, forcing a punt. Later in the period, #7 Chase Randolph picked off an errant pass to give the ball back to the Loudon offence. An eight-plat 45 yard drive resulted in a 3 yard touchdown for #33 Jake Brantely, early in the 2nd quarter. The 2-pt. conversion attempt failed. After a 3 and out series, forced by the “Big Red” defense, it was off to the races for #1 Patric Johnson, as he ripped off a 68 yard TD jaunt. At the half, Loudon was up 12-0. The ‘Skin defense did there job, holding the Highlanders to 45 yards of total offense in the first half. Loudon kicked off to start the 2nd half. On the 3rd play from scrimmage, #12 Jordan Jeffers was back to pass, #7 Chase Randolph stepped in front of the Scott reciever for his 2nd pick of the night. With a short field , #33 Jake Brantley was in the end zone from 27 yards out. The score was now 18-0, and the Redskin defense dropped their guard. What looked like a routine punt, turned into a 68 yard touchdown for #12 Jordan Jeffers who was the up back on the fake punt. In fact the Scott quarterback (Jeffers), repeated the same feat early in the 4th stanza, scoring on a 70 yard fake punt. The Scott defense fed off of the two fake punts that were turned into touchdowns. The momentum was clearly held by the home team, as the score was now 18-15. The Highlanders kicked off to the 'Skins. With two plays for no gain, and a holding penality, it was 3rd and 20. #1 Patric Johnson rambled for a 12 yard gain. Let's set the stage... 4th and 8, 4th quarter, about 2 minutes to go in the game, ball on your own 38 yard line, and the Redskins are holding on to a precarious 3 point lead. Without so much as a timeout to talk about it, Head Coach Jeff Harig call a fake punt of his own. If this play was stuffed by Scott, it surely would cost the Redskins the victory. The ball was short snapped to #2 Chad Oody, the up back. Oody raced down the right sideline and erupted for a 52 yard gain. First and 10, "Big Red". From there, #22 Brent McNew, bullied in from 10 yards out, and added the lone 2-pt conversion for the ‘Skins. To seal the game, #2 Chad Oody intercepted a pass, stopping the Highlanders chance of an upset. Final score, 26-15, the “Big Red”.
