In a pre-game ceremony, the four teams of the Loudon Quarterback Club were the guests of Head Coach Jeff Harig. As the Crickets, Hoppers, Mustangs, and Indians football teams plus their respective cheerleading squads streamed across the field, they were introduced including their current season record. The young future Redskins and cheerleaders also participated in the "Redskin Tunnel". The LQC thanks Coach Harig for sponsoring and supporting these activities.
Last years score was 50-0, AE. All time, the record between these two schools is five wins against four losses in the favor of Austin-East. With that said let's get down to the game at hand, the Roadrunners come into Dukes Field ranked the #1 3A team in the state. After the tough loss to Sequoyah, the "Big Red" had a good spirited week of practice and were up for the challenge at hand. A-E won the toss and deferred to the second half. Loudon took the kick-off and with a 14 yard return by #7 Chase Randolph, started on the 23 yard line. On third down, #4 Cody Fritts was back to pass; #54 Anthony McAlister intercepted the tipped ball, first and 10 A-E on the Redskin 13 yard line. One play later it was 7 -0. In the second period, Loudon fumbled the ball, #45 Daniel Saywer, scooped and scored on a 55 yard touchdown. The 'Skins went into a game slow-down mode. The game plan was to run as much time off the clock as possible with each offensive play. The slow-down calmed the Redskins down and agitated the Roadrunners. The frustration showed up in personal foul penalties against A-E. #15 Yoni Espinoza was called upon to kick two field goals in the second quarter, a 23 and a 35 yarder. At the half, the Roadrunners are up 21-6. Loudon kicked off to start the second half, the Redskin "D" sent the Roadrunners three and out. A-E was back in punt formation, off the edge #7 Chase Randolph blocked the punt. First and ten on the nine yard line. #1 Partic Johnson bullied in from the one yard line, touchdown Big Red! The 2-point conversion attempt failed. On to the fourth stanza. A-E was kicking off after scoring on a touchdown pass, #33 Jake Brantley hauled in the kick and headed off on a 64 yard return. Starting from the 31 yard line the six play drive culminated in a two yard touchdown by the man who got it started, Brantley. With the Ezpinoza kick, the score is now 29 to 19. The hard fought game was not over yet as Austin-East added another score, and was threatening again as time expired. Final score 35-19, Roadrunners (4-0). Next week, the Redskins (1-3) travel to Sweetwater, game time is 7:30 pm
