2003 Loudon/Seymour Scrimmage

The Seymour Eagles (1-3A) almost cancelled this scrimmage? With eight players injured, having managed only four scores (2 by the defense), and giving up 12 scores the Eagle Head Coach was left scratching his head and wondering what to do. The Eagles arrived wounded, beat up, and not too ready for the season to start. On the other hand, the Redskins have enjoyed a very successful pre-season. Work on the passing game has progressed (204 yds rushing and 102 yds passing vs Alcoa) with each scrimmage. However, the coaches were unable to motivate the lethargic bunch of ’Skins that took the field Friday evening. This scrimmage was played as close to a real game as possible. The clock, quarters, halftime, chain gang, referees, turnovers, penalties, punt formation, kick offs, and the coaches in head sets were all live. The temperature and humidity were both rising... the ‘Skins seemed to wilt. Mid-way through the scrimmage, Head Coach Harig was so disgusted watching everyone drag around, that he was looking for people who wanted to play. A very bright spot was #81 Adam Russell (Jr.). Russell broke up a pass attempt, intercepted a pass, and tackled the Eagle QB for a 10 yard loss resulting in a safety! On offense the Redskins scored on a 25 yard run by #1, Patric Johnson. “The Big Red Wall” held Seymour to 7 yards rushing? Seven plays were sacks or tackles behind the line of scrimmage to the tune of -64 yards. Loudon was penalized 5 times, fumbled 4 times (lost 1), punted twice, but gained nine 1st downs. A lightning storm caused the game to be called with about 8 minutes left on the clock. Eagles 15, Redskins 8.

LHS Redskins: 33 attempts for 145 yards and (1) TD rushing; 7 of 24 for 52 yards passing.

Seymour Eagles: 18 attempts for 7 yards rushing; 14 of 21 for 119 yards (2) TD’s, (1) 2 pt. conv., & (1) INT passing.
